North Tyneside Learning Trust is a registered charity (1143299) and company limited by guarantee (07353837) established in 2010.
The Trust is led by a Board of Directors. The Board meets at least six times a year and is responsible for overall governance, setting strategic direction and monitoring performance. Laura Baggett- Primary Schools' Representative
Laura Baggett is Headteacher at Monkhouse Primary School and was appointed Primary Director on the Trust Board in October 2017. Monkhouse is a school that is committed to real life and global learning opportunities that ignite pupil’s passions so they can achieve highly. As a school, staff are active learners, researching and trialling new and innovative ways to teach and learn; redefining education and preparing children for the world of tomorrow. Laura is also the chair of the Great North Maths Hub Strategic Board.
Peter Gannon - Special Schools' Representative
Peter Gannon is Headteacher of Silverdale School in Wallsend, which is a Special school that deals with children who have issues with social, emotional or mental health. There are currently 63 children aged 7-16 years in the school and an additional 36 children in the Silverdale Arp. Peter joined North Tyneside in 2008 as Headteacher and had previously worked in Sunderland for 12 years with children who had behaviour problems. Silverdale School believes that positivity and praise are the key to improving behaviour and this holistic approach as seen the school judged as Outstanding for Behaviour and Safety.
Alex Giles- Chair of Governors Representative
As the Managing Director of a successful Advertising agency for 17 years Alex brings to NTLT a wealth of experience within PR, Marketing and Branding. Currently working within Marketing in Education Alex also shares his passion for working, at an Executive status, on a voluntary basis to ensure that children and adults from the North East of England are given as much support, assistance and development as possible. He, in his free time, runs the Friends of High Borrans, is Chair of Governors at Wellfield Middle School and is a National Level 3 Athletics Coach at Gateshead Harriers.
Jane Delany - Vice-Chair & Higher/Further Education Partners' Representative
Dr Jane Delany is the HE/FE representative on the Board. A Senior Lecturer in Marine Ecology, she joined Newcastle University in 2000. Her research interests include understanding dynamics of plankton populations, ballast water management and larval recruitment of intertidal species. She is also passionate about public engagement in science, and heads up an Outreach team at the Dove Marine Laboratory. The group provide innovative learning opportunities for school pupils of all ages, and explore ways in which members of the public can be involved in scientific data collection. As Admissions Tutor for the 3 marine science degrees, she has a keen interest in third level recruitment issues.
David Hodgson - Employer Partners' Representative
David Hodgson is a graduate in Chemical Engineering from the University of Newcastle with a 36 year career in the Fine Chemical Industry. Throughout his career he has been based on the site currently operated by Sterling Pharma Solutions at Dudley in Northumberland. David’s experience includes process engineering, design, project engineering and operations management. For the past 28 years he has specialised in Health, Safety and Environment management. He has worked in USA, South American, East Africa and mainland Europe. David is Director of Regulatory Compliance and a member of the Shasun Pharma Solutions Management team. He is also a member of the CIA UK Strategy Board and a Fellow of the Institution of Chemical Engineers.
Tracy Crowder - Senior Schools' Representative
Tracy Crowder was appointed Executive Headteacher at Monkseaton High School in September 2013 following 18 months as Head of School. Prior to this Tracy worked as a Deputy and also as an Assistant Headteacher with two very different schools. Tracy has a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education(PGCE) and more recently gained her National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH) and a Masters Degree in Educational Leadership. Tracy is a National Leader of Education and is currently providing school improvement support to Monkseaton Middle School.
Ian Grayson - Local Authority's Representative
Cllr Ian Grayson represents the Monkseaton South Ward on North Tyneside Council. He is the Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Learning and a teacher with over 25 years of experience teaching in Newcastle upon Tyne. Ian is also a National Executive Member of the National Union of Teachers.
Richard Carmichael - Employer Partner Representative
Richard Carmichael is the Partnership Director for Capita’s partnership with North Tyneside Council. He is responsible for the delivery of all aspects of Capita’s 15 year contract with the council. Additionally, he has full profit and loss responsibility for this business unit in Capita.
