Engineering Development Trust:
The Trust has been involved with many programmes delivered by EDT. In 2014/15 schools can participate in a range of activities such as the Engineering Education Scheme aimed at year 12 students; Go4Set aimed at year 9s; and Primary Engineer.
- EES – This Engineering Development Trust programme involves Teams of Year 12 students from Trust schools partnering with engineering companies for six months to develop and engineering project. The Trust sponsored 7 teams to take part in the 2013 Engineering Education Scheme and the Whitley Bay High School Team took 1st place ahead of all 27 teams from across the region to win the Nissan Rose Bowl prize at the Regional Final.
- Go4Set – This Engineering Development Trust programme involves teams of Year 9 students. The programme began with a pilot at Whitley Bay High School and the plan is to extend the scheme to further Trust Secondary schools.
- Primary Engineer – To deliver engineering projects in primary schools in partnership with local engineering companies. The programme is designed to inspire and encourage an interest in engineering from a very young age and is sponsored by local engineering companies. 4 Trust schools were involved in the programme last year and Appletree Gardens won first place in the regional final. A further 9 Trust schools are participating in Primary Engineer in 2013/14. All remaining Trust schools are being offered places in 2014/15
