Become A Trust Governor

Every child deserves a champion in education. As a Trust Governor, you’ll be that champion, helping shape the future of young people across North Tyneside’s schools.

What is a Trust Governor?

North Tyneside Learning Trust appoints Trust Governors to the governing bodies of our 37 foundation member schools. Trust Governors:

  • Bring fresh perspectives into school decision making
  • Strengthen links between schools, communities and employers
  • Support the Trust’s mission to improve life chances for local children
You don’t need to work in education, we welcome people from all backgrounds who want to make a difference.

What does the role involve?

Typical expectations vary by school, but usually include:
  • One full governing body meeting every term
  • 2–3 daytime visits each year
  • Committee membership linked to your interests and/or experience
  • Preparation and reading between meetings
Most governors give around 6-8 hours per month.

How we support you

We offer:
  • Comprehensive induction
  • Regular governor training sessions
  • Half termly updates from our Strategic Lead
