NTLT Mock Interviews give students the opportunity to experience a realistic interview setting, helping them prepare for future education, training and employment. Delivered in partnership with local employers, the sessions provide a practical way for students to build confidence and understand what to expect in an interview.
In the 2024–25 academic year, 11 schools took part, with over 1,200 young people experiencing a mock interview.
What happens
Students take part in one-to-one mock interviews with volunteers from a range of industries, including organisations such as the NHS, DWP and Hays Travel.
Ahead of the interviews, students are supported by school staff to prepare, including thinking about their skills, interests and future aspirations. On the day, they attend a scheduled interview and respond to questions designed to help them articulate their strengths and experiences.
Each student receives individual feedback from their interviewer, giving them a clear understanding of what they did well and where they can improve. This immediate feedback is a key part of the experience, helping students reflect and build confidence for future opportunities.
The difference it makes
Mock Interviews provide a valuable opportunity for students to experience something that can often feel unfamiliar and intimidating.
Feedback from participating schools shows a clear impact on both confidence and understanding of the interview process.
- 89% of students reported increased confidence for future interviews
- 85% said the experience improved their understanding of the interview process
- 92% felt they gained useful suggestions and ideas for their future
Students also showed measurable improvements across key communication skills, including giving clear answers, using examples effectively and demonstrating positive body language.
For many students, the experience helps to reduce anxiety around interviews while giving them a clearer sense of what employers are looking for.
