STEAM Live is a large scale careers event designed to introduce primary aged pupils to a wide range of careers linked to science, technology, engineering, arts and maths. The event brings together local employers and schools to provide hands on, interactive experiences that help pupils explore future possibilities.
In June 2025, the event brought together 280 Year 6 pupils from six North Tyneside Learning Trust schools, alongside 20 organisations from a range of industries.
What happens
Pupils attended the event at The Parks, where they took part in a series of interactive activities led by employers. The format allowed pupils to move around the space, choosing which stands to visit and engaging directly with professionals from different sectors.
Activities were designed to be practical and engaging, giving pupils the opportunity to try new things, ask questions and learn more about different roles and industries.
A treasure hunt-style approach encouraged pupils to explore multiple stands, helping to ensure a broad experience across a range of careers.
The difference it makes
STEAM Live provided an engaging and accessible introduction to careers at a key stage in pupils’ development.
Feedback from pupils showed a clear impact on awareness of future opportunities:
- 96% of pupils said they learned about jobs they had not previously considered
The interactive format played a key role in this, with pupils responding particularly well to hands on activities and the opportunity to speak directly with employers.
The event also created strong engagement from employers, with 92% indicating they would take part again in future events . Many highlighted the value of connecting with young people and showcasing opportunities within their industries.
