The great North East weather doesn’t stop the students and staff from NTLT Partner Schools when they have taken on a task and it was wonderful to see so many (almost 1200) people get out and about in the wind, rain and occasional sunshine to commit to upholding the wishes of David Wilson Bavaird JP in the first Great NTLT Litter Pick.
The Great NTLT Litter Pick was organised in memory of David Bavaird, former High Sherriff of Tyne and Wear, and Trust Governor. David, who sadly passed away in August last year, was passionate about providing educational opportunities for young people, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds. David was a long standing ambassador of NTLT and as a Trust we have committed to sharing and carrying out David’s last wishes for a better future:
“Hug the people you love
Think before a cross word is spoken
Be kind to one another and if you can,
Give some of your valuable time to your community”
During Keep Britain Tidy week (18th – 25th March 2024), children and young people from across the Trust picked up their litter pickers and bin bags, many of which were very kindly provided by North Tyneside Council, and headed out across school fields and into the local community. Not to be left out, colleagues from North Tyneside Learning Trust also headed out and spent a couple of hours around North Shields Old Low Light, a special place of David’s. We were easy to spot thanks to the hi vis vests, very kindly provided by Emblematic.
Huge thanks to all of the schools who got involved, we hope we can build on the success of the inaugural Great North Tyneside Litter Pick next year.
