NTLT Musical Extravaganza gets a Standing Ovation

On Tuesday 27th June, children and young people from across the Trust took over Sage Gateshead to perform in the 2023 NTLT Musical Extravaganza. More than 450 children from 13 Trust Partner Schools came together to perform as one massed choir on the night having started rehearsing back in January.

Final rehearsals started bright and early on Tuesday morning and there was an air of awe and excitement as children entered Hall One for the first time, getting a glimpse of where they would be performing to a packed-out audience later that day.

The rehearsal was led by Mr Bommel, a Headteacher and Director for the Trust, who had the children singing and dancing together in no time and after a full morning and afternoon, it was soon time for them to take a break and make way for our high school and special school performers.

It takes a lot of courage to stand on the stage and perform as a soloist or small group but none of our older performers seemed to be phased and looked like they could be the warm up act for Adele or on the West End Stage.

6.30pm soon came around and the choir took to the stage in their specially designed Musical Extravaganza t-shirts. Kehri Ellis, Chief Exec at North Tyneside Learning Trust welcomed the 1200 audience members and presented our t-shirt winner, Elana Richards from Monkhouse Primary School with her prize.

Throughout the concert the audience remained enthralled by the variety of performance and when the very last song came to end, they gave our wonderful youngsters a very well-deserved standing ovation.

Reviews about the night:

“What an amazing event and evening! The power of a choir is really something. Well done to all of the children for their bravery in front of such a big audience and all of the staff involved in making the night such a success.”

“It was a fantastic event. Full of fun and amazing music. We were impressed with the scale of the event, the talent and the professional set-up. We all walked out feeling full of joy and can’t wait for next year!”

“As one of the performers I loved seeing so many young people enjoy performing as much as I did when I was their age. Now I hope that they still enjoy it as much as I still do now!!! It was a wonderful night with so much support! Well done everyone!!”

Thank you to every single person who made the night the success it was and we’ll hopefully see you all in 2024!
