The Great
North Maths Hub

The Great North Maths Hub is one of 40 designated Maths Hubs across England, based at Monkhouse Primary School and part of the national Maths Hub programme. The programme is supported by the National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics (NCETM) and funded by the Department for Education.

We work with schools and education settings across Northumberland, North Tyneside, South Tyneside, Newcastle, Gateshead and Sunderland, supporting high quality mathematics education at every stage.

Established in 2014, the Hub’s lead school is Monkhouse Primary School, part of the North Tyneside Learning Trust, where enthusiasm and ambition for education are at the heart of our work.

We offer fully funded, evidence based professional development for teachers and leaders from Early Years to Post-16 and Higher Education. Through collaborative programmes led by local experts, we support sustainable improvements in mathematics teaching and learning, helping all pupils to achieve their full potential.

The Trust uses the skills of leaders within the Trust to provide capacity to help other schools. This support is available in AI. Schools can apply to make use of the time of our Local Leaders to assist in developing their own expertise.

Schools of Sanctuary

North Tyneside Learning Trust leads and supports the Schools of Sanctuary programme across North Tyneside. We hold the local licence to deliver the award and work in partnership with the refugee charity Walking With (Wallsend) to support schools through the process.
